Dr. Angela Kremers and Marion Coleman, with the ADE-Division of Career and Technical Education, visited Dawson today to learn more about the cooperative and the innovative programs of study being offered within our schools. Thank you to Centerpoint, Gurdon, Harmony Grove and Lake Hamilton for doing an outstanding job presenting your programs of study.
Students from Bismarck,Centerpoint, and Gurdon attended Manufacturing Day at Siplast in Arkadelphia. Students learned about manufacturing, toured the plant and lab, saw demonstrations from the hail gun and wind uplift to demonstrate the effects of weather on roofing and spoke with company representatives about the various career opportunities available within the organization.
ELEMENTARY TEACHER RECEIVES GRANT Lake Hamilton Elementary School teacher, Emily Smeltzer, was recently named a recipient of the Parsons-Burnett Scholarship Grant. Given out each year by the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association (ARTA), the scholarships support the further education of practicing Arkansas public-school educators. Smeltzer is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and plans to use the funds to attend the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Academy at Henderson State University (HSU). Attending this program at HSU will enable her to effectively reach more of her students as a second grade teacher. A total of eight scholarship grants were awarded this year through a competitive application process. The scholarships are funded by memorials and donations from the members of the ARTA. ARTA was established in 1939-40 with 15 members. Today, the organization has more than 12,500 members who work together to protect and improve the professional, personal, social and economic welfare of retired (and future-retired) public school employees. #southwestesolinstitute #AREnglishLearners #DECSUMMER2019
Instructional Facilitators Carrie Barber and Michelle Moore with Malvern School District recently welcomed Annette Brown, Science Specialist at Dawson Education Cooperative as part of the Professional Learning Community of second grade teachers as they continue to learn together through collective inquiry. The group is spending time to closely examine Next Generation Science Standards and determine effective grouping of performance expectations for their grade level and map out a sequence of learning for the school year. Through the PLC process, teachers have had the opportunity to discuss the "how" and "why" of learning and assessment.
Congratulations to Hot Springs High School Students who recently earned the Seal of Biliteracy. Certifying as biliterate is a rigorous process and adds to a student’s workforce and college marketability. Malvern School District ROCKS!!Michelle Moore, Instructional Facilitator, and Brandi Smith, 5th Grade ELA teacher recently collaborated to create a Book Tasting for 5th grade students to creatively promote a positive reading culture for students at Wilson Intermediate. Moore and Smith implemented the learning engagement by selecting six novels that will be integrated into Literature Circles. The students had the opportunity to sample each of the books during a tasting rotation, make notes about specific interests and prioritize which book they would be most interested in reading. The goal was to spark reading interests in a creative way, offer students choice in their reading selections and immerse them in rich discussions about their book
PD at Dawson is starting to wind down. Teachers, check out our live feeds throughout the school year!
